The situation, in brief

It is beyond the reach of my knowledge or comprehension as to why President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has been reluctant in identifying the owners of construction firms that have cornered ₱100 billion worth of flood control projects in the country since 2022.

A report from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) revealed that 20 percent of the ₱545 billion flood control projects from July 2022 to May 2025 were awarded to 15 contractors.

Sunwest Incorporated got the lion’s share among the groups, obtaining ₱10 billion for 78 projects.

The Bicol-based firm is being linked to Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co as a former incorporator. Co is known to be a close ally of House Speaker and presidential cousin Martin Romualdez.

Despite the controversy, the President stopped short of linking officials to these highly unusual transactions.

As things unfold, people will not stop speculating, including about the supposed dilly-dallying attitude of the President in dealing with tough decisions.

In short, he has shown hesitation in taking the right approach to rectify false narratives and refute rumors.

Mahirap ba talagang pangalanan ang mga may-ari ng mga kumpanyang nagkamal ng malalaking kontrata sa DPWH?

O baka kulang pa ang intelligence funds para mahubaran sila ng maskara?

This is downright pathetic, Mr. President!

People are becoming impatient and desperate.

It is therefore essential to act with dispatch and decisively in a crucial moment where failure is not an option.

Time is running out, Mr. President.

Is Trillanes undermining Leni, Bam to make way for Risa?

With the 2028 presidential race now less than two years away, former senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV has drawn fresh lines inside the so-called opposition—this time targeting Sen. Bam Aquino in a way that inevitably puts former vice president and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo in the same…

EDITORIAL: The abuse of class suspensions has gone too far

When did we become a country so quick to suspend classes at the faintest hint of inconvenience? Local officials today seem to wield the power to cancel school like a social media stunt, a button pressed for applause, hearts, and fleeting praise from students who will forget about it by the next…

On the ₱879,000 body cameras: Sen. Raffy Tulfo, firing the BAC is barely scratching the surface

The ₱879,000-per-unit body-worn camera procurement of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has drawn public outrage, after Senator Raffy Tulfo flagged it “immoral” and “scandalous.” His demand was blunt: fire the members of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) and the Technical Working Group (TWG)…
