The Social Security System’s (SSS) Pension Reserve Fund has reached ₱1 trillion for the first time in the institution’s history, giving millions of Filipino private sector workers confidence that their retirement funds are secure, Finance Secretary Frederick Go said Saturday.

Go made the disclosure in an interview on DZRH News program Special on Saturday on August 8, as part of the DZRH SONA 2026 Series featuring the Department of Finance.

“Sa SSS for one, ay umabot na ‘yung Pension Reserve Fund natin ng ₱1 trillion pesos. Ano rin po ‘to, first time sa kasaysayan ng SSS,” Go said, describing the milestone as a source of comfort for SSS pensioners and members.

He said the ₱1 trillion reserve means SSS pensioners can sleep soundly knowing their retirement funds are backed by a historically strong financial cushion, even in the face of economic uncertainties.

The milestone was achieved alongside record net incomes for all three major government financial institutions under the Marcos administration, with SSS posting a net income of ₱143 billion, GSIS posting ₱138 billion, and Landbank posting ₱44 billion.

Go said the strong performance of the SSS has also allowed it to launch a new micro loan program, offering members emergency loans of up to ₱20,000 at just 6% interest per year, compared to the 10% per month charged by informal lenders.

He said the combined record performances of the SSS, GSIS, and Landbank generated ₱147 billion in dividends for the national government this year alone, contributing directly to the government’s funding for public services and infrastructure.
